Busan Port Authority, marking the 3rd anniversary of foundation

Tuesday, March 16, Busan, Korea - Busan Port Authority(BPA) inaugurated to foster the Port of Busan into the logistics hub in Northeast Asia marked its 3rd anniversary of its foundation in January 16.

 

Despite the first port authority in Korea, BPA has recorded surplus for three-year consecutively and has been evaluated as the major player of managing and operating Busan Port.

 

BPA saw US$6.5 million of surplus in 2006 following US$8 million and US$10.4 million in 2004 and 2005 respectively. 

 

BPA also installed BPA-NET, a comprehensive logistics information network to enhance productivity of Busan Port and embarked upon terminal construction project of phase 2-1 and 2-2 at Busan New Port Construction.

 

Through the revision of port authority act, BPA was allowed to extend its business into management of water area and BPA has made efforts to improve convenience for port-users.

 

In a rapidly evolving environment of port and logistics industry, Busan Port handled 12. 03 million TEU in 2006, 1.6% increase from the previous year recording 11.84 million TEU.

 

In order to spur cooperation with other ports, BPA signed MOUs with Rotterdam Port Authority, the Port of LA, Shanghai International Ports Group, etc.

 .

Moreover, BPA has offered incentives to shipping companies calling at Busan Port in a bid to attract transshipment cargo. BPA also selected terminal operators at phase 2-1 and 2-2 in advance.

 

At logistics distripark at Busan New Port, more than 60 multinational logistics companies from home and abroad were selected by BPA.

 

BPA has pursued North Port Redevelopment Project to develop Busan Port into the international destination of maritime and tourism.
