Excavation of Korea’s Longest Tunnel Completed

On February 13, excavation work on the longest tunneled section of the country’s KTX high-speed rail network, the Geumgjeong Tunnel (20.3km) connecting Nopo-dong, in Geumjeong-gu District and Choryang-dong, Dong-gu District, was completed after nearly 6 years. When the second phase of the high-speed KTX train project is completed in December 2010, passengers will be able to reach Seoul from Busan in just two hours and 10 minutes instead of the current two hours and 45 minutes.
