English-language radio broadcast to be launched on February 27, 2009

Busan's new English FM will air for the first time on Feb. 27. Busan Metropolitan City will hold the opening ceremony on Feb. 27 and go on air at 11:00 a.m.. This English radio station aims to help the increasing number of foreigners living in Busan develop a better understanding of Korean society and enhance the English proficiency of Busan citizens. Busan English radio station will air various programs at 90.5MHz entirely in English for 21 hours a day from 5 a.m. till 2 a.m. the next day. Radio listeners can stay tuned to domestic and international news, local Busan news, music, entertainment, and glean useful information.

Following the establishment of the Busan English Station Foundation in September last year, Busan gained approval for the new radio station from the Korea Communications Commission. Already, eight experts in English broadcasting, including directors, producers and broadcasters, have been hired through an open recruitment process.
