Tourism Collaboration among Busan, Osaka and Shanghai

Three seaside cities in Northeast Asia; Busan, Shanghai and Osaka is to establish a joint tourism cooperation system. These cities have made an effort to jointly attract the world’s major cruise lines. The cooperation among these cities is expected to become a big bang of the tourism for their respective countries; Korea, China and Japan.

Mayor of Busan Hur Nam-sik along with Osaka Mayor Seki Junichi and Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng attended the Busan-Shanghai-Osaka Golden Triangle Summit, which was held at Riga Royal Hotel in Osaka, Japan on October 25. The three Mayors adopted a joint declaration on the promotion of tourism among the three cities.

In the joint declaration, the three cities agreed to cooperate in the area of their key international events; PIFF (Pusan International Film Festival), Shanghai World Expo and Aqua Metropolis Osaka 2009. By taking these events as a good opportunity, they will promote exchanges in tourism and further attract tourists from aboard.

The three participating cities are committed to paving the way for generating common benefits by further attracting tourists from the Americas and Europe based on the joint declaration which emphasizes the importance of expanding exchanges in the tourism industry.

During the summit, these cities shared information on attractive tourism products, historical and cultural heritage, food and shopping, transportation and information network, and accommodation in cooperation with various private tourism organizations.

In particular, Busan Mayor proposed to attract tourists with relatively higher added value including major cruise lines to take full advantage of the beautiful seaside environment that the three cities in Asia-Pacific have to offer.
