BFIA extends teaching hours, dispatches lecturers to alienated quarters

Busan Foundation for International Activities or BFIA is providing “free Korean courses” for foreign residents in Busan who want to learn the language of their host country this year.

The Korean lessons will be held on four occasions in each quarter of 2009 (1st term in Jan. 22-March 20, 2nd term in April 6-June 12, 3rd term in July 6-Sept. 11, 4th term in Oct. 5-Dec. 11) at Yangjeong Campus of Dongseo University’s Social Educational Center, located at Yangjeongdong, Yeonje-gu District. (Table)

Each quarterly term will consist of four classes with varying degrees of difficulty - Elementary 1 (Mondays and Wednesdays), Elementary 2 (Tuesdays and Thursdays), Intermediate (Tuesdays and Thursdays) and Advanced Class (Wednesdays and Fridays). Class hours will be between 10 a.m. and noon, and each class will have 15 students.

In addition, the BFIA will offer “visit-the-student” language courses, in which lecturers will call on foreigners who have difficulties visiting the class due to various reasons, including migrant wives whose hands are full with household chores or native English teachers busying themselves teaching Koreans.

The visiting lessons will be conducted twice in each half - 1st half (Jan. 12-June 12) and 2nd half (July 6-Dec. 11) at such places as Nakdong General Welfare Center (located in Myeongji-dong, Gangseo-gu District), Saha-gu District General Welfare Center (in Gamcheon-dong, Saha-gu District) and Busan City Educational Office (Geoje-dong, Yeonje-gu District).

Foreigners wanting to receive Korean lessons have to download application form on the BFIA’s Web site (www.bfia.or.kr), fill it and visit the foundation or send it by mail or email (jhh@bfia.or.kr) attached by a photo. Information: BFIA (051-888-6651)
