Top 10 achievements by the municipal administration during 2008

Busan City announced the ‘Top 10 achievements by the municipal administration of 2008’ on December 22.  Among the city projects promoted in 2008 which have had a very positive effect on the city’s development or been an outstanding success, the 10 that have been chosen by Busan’s citizens, journalists and city officials are: 

 

1. Building of a high-tech International Industrial and Logistic City

○ The lifting of restrictions on development of 33km² of ‘greenbelt’ land, to build an industrial and logistic complex

 

2. Groundbreaking of the Central Bay (North Port Redevelopment) Project

○ Site Area: North Port Coastal Ferry Terminal Pier ~ Pier 4, 1.51million

○ Construction Period: 2005 ~ 2020

 

3. Successful hosting of the VI World Forum on Sport, Education and Culture, and the 4th Busan TAFISA World Sport For All Games

○ Participants

-  The VI World Forum on Sport, Education and Culture: 154 people including IOC Vice President 

-  Busan TAFISA World Sport For All Games: 10,000 people from 150 countries

 

4. ‘Air Busan’ launches services

○ The Busan–Gimpo route started Oct. 27, with 9 flights a day

○ International flight services will begin from 2009.

 

5. Completion of Public Transportation Transfer System

○ Transport modes: local buses, subways, village/neighborhood buses 

○ Up to 2 transfers allowed per journey, provided that each are completed within 30 minutes

 

6. Opening of Namhang-Gyo (bridge)

○ A 1.9 kilometer bridge between Amnam-dong and Yeongseon-dong

○ Construction Period: Oct. 1997 ~ Aug. 2008

 

7. Opening of Busan International Fish Market

○ Location: Amnam-dong, Seo-gu, Busan

○ Amount of materials treated: 2,213 tons/day

○ One-stop customs procedure

 

8. Opening of Busan Women and Family Development Institute

○ Size: 4,000

○ Role: researching women and family policy, promoting social participation by women, seniors and others

 

9. Busan, Fukuoka to Form Supra-Regional Economic Zone

○ Economic and Tourism Cooperation Organization (Oct. 2008) consisting of 16 experts from agencies and other economic sectors from each country

 

10. Groundbreaking of the Permanent Venue for the Pusan International Film Festival (PIFF) and the Busan Film Center, ‘Dureraum’ 

○ Covering a total floor space of 53,000 in Centum City

○ It is composed of three buildings – Cinema Mountain, PIFF Hill and Double Cone.
