Association of International Boxing Amateur (AIBA) agreed on 22 October at an extraordinary general meeting to select Busan as the venue of 2008 AIBA Executive Committee meeting, prior to the opening of the 2007 AIBA world boxing championship (23 Oct. – 3 Nov., Chicago, the United States).

AIBA Executive Committee meeting will have several official meetings with the participation of about 60 people including the executive members, IOC members, and officials from the Association. In particular, with some 10 IOC members expected to attend the meeting, Busan, bidding for hosting 2020 Olympic Games, will have a good chance to officially contact the IOC members and dignitaries of the world sports arena.

Busan city plans to have the meeting to be held at either the Nurimaru APEC House boasting a spectacular coastal views or a hotel near the House.

In addition, Busan city will provide IOC members and all the participants with opportunities to take a romantic night-time cruise tour and visit the historic relics and the industrial sites in and around Busan, a chance to let them know Korea’s wonderful cultural heritage and give them a good impression and intimacy of Busan.

As the meeting is expected to help Busan raise its image as an international conference and sports city and seek support for its bid for 2020 Olympic Games, Busan city will do its best efforts to make the 2008 AIBA Executive Committee meeting serve as a catalyst for Busan’s hosting of the 2020 Olympic Games.
