3rd Busan Fireworks Festival

"3rd Busan Fireworks Festival", the world's top high-tech multimedia fireworks festival, will be held for two days from October 19 to 20 against the backdrop of Gwangalli Beach and Gwangan Bridge.

The festival this year will last two days, one day longer than the previous year. The "stay-type tourism festival" is promoted in an attempt to attract more tourists and contribute to the regional economy. On the eve of the festival, "Media Art Show" and other high-quality cultural performances will be presented in commemoration of Culture Month 2007. The main events of the festival includes "High-tech Multimedia Fireworks Show" and a variety of pre-ceremony events & special congratulatory performances. The events, which fully utilize sky, land and sea as stage, will draw the spectators to enjoy the festival. The spectators are estimated at about 1.3 million, 300,000 on the eve and 1 million in the main events, respectively.

The programs of the events on the eve, Friday, Oct. 19 will be as follows: "Culture Month 2007 Eve Ceremony", "High-tech Multimedia Fireworks Show" and "Culture Month 2007 Eve Ceremony" again. During "Culture Month 2007 Eve Ceremony", various cultural performances including Yeollim-gut (shamanic opening ceremony), story & music performance, Madang-theatre (open-theatre), music & dance performance and Donghaean byeolsin-gut (village ritual held in the Eastern coastal region) will take place on the permanent stage in front of the Minrak Town Sliced Raw Fish Center from 5:00 P.M. to 10:30 P.M. "Media Art Show" starting at 8:00 P.M. for 30 minutes will present a spectacular show of color lasers, high-tech LEC, water screens, special lighting and music. The show sets itself apart from the fireworks-centered main events the following day.

The programs of the main events on Saturday, Oct. 20 will be as follows: "Pre-ceremony Events", "Special Congratulatory Performances", "Main Ceremony", "High-tech Multimedia Fireworks Show" and "Post-ceremony Event". "Pre-ceremony Events" will be presented on the outdoor stage and temporary stage from 3:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. including dance performance, yacht parade, Special Sea Attack Team (SSAT) mission demonstration and congratulatory helicopter flight. "Main Ceremony" will start at 8:00 P.M. for 15 minutes, followed by "High-tech Multimedia Fireworks Show" which starts 8:15 P.M. and lasts for 45 minutes. The show will present a world-class fireworks festival harmonized with the high-tech system. In the session of "Post-ceremony Event", the movie "Highway Star" will be screened in the outdoor stage to induce people to return home gradually.

"Media Art Show" themed "the Colors of Busan" depicts Busan's four beautiful seasons in four different colors. The show is proceeded in the following order: "Prologue", "Act 1. Yellow (Spring Waltz)", "Act 2. Blue (Blue Sea), "Act 3. Silver (Reed Waving)" and "Act 4. Red (Camellia Island)." Various kinds of high-tech equipment is set up in the anchor block of the Gwangan Bridge including LEC image system, color lasers, water screen aided by four fire fighting boats, and 50 search lighters, presenting a spectacular multi-system show.

"High-tech Multimedia Fireworks Show" themed "Busan Sonata" is proceeded in the order: "Prologue", "Act 1. Meeting", "Act 2. Love", "Act 3. Parting", "Act 4. Reunion", "Act 5. Busan Sonata" and "Epilogue." Messages of love and hope for Busan are expressed with beautiful fireworks, Korean pop music and cutting-edge system. With familiar k-pop and superb storyline, people will be moved as if they watch an opera.

Busan Fireworks Festival has distinctive features as follows: △ utilize Gwangan Bridge, the optimum place for the festival △ the world's single largest fireworks festival (45 min-long fireworks show, 78,000 shots in total, 191 large scale shots and 90 sec-long grand finale) △ its own specialized directing style (Niagara Falls Fireworks at Gwangan Bridge, relay fireworks with big aerial shells and Rainbow) △ new types of fireworks (fireworks on the water, characters fireworks, Phoenix).

Against the backdrop of Gwangan Bridge, one of the representative tourists attractions in Busan, the festival mixes traditional outdoor event of fireworks with various modern high-tech systems in harmony, giving unforgettable memories and unusual pleasure to all participants as "cutting-edge multimedia festival" rather than normal fireworks show.

Busan Fireworks Festival was first presented on 16 Nov 2005 as "Multi-Media Cutting-edge Marine Fireworks Festival" marking the 2005 APEC Summit, Busan. Leaders of APEC members, home and overseas reporters and one million visitors enjoyed the world's largest fireworks festival and called it "the world's best fireworks illuminated in the night sky above Gwangalli Beach." "2nd Busan Fireworks Festival", held on 10 Nov 2006, was to celebrate post-APEC projects & UNESCAP Ministerial Conference on Transport 2006 and gathered 1.1 million people, a record high in the history of cultural events held in Busan.
