Number of foreign visitors to Busan steadily rises

The number of foreign visitors to Busan has been found to be four times higher than the national average. The city announced on Aug. 24 that the number of foreign visitors to Busan during the first half of the year totaled 785,912, an increase of 6.8 percent, compared to 736,066 last year.

The nation as a whole saw an increase of 1.8 percent during the same period. Among the foreign tourists who visited Busan, the Japanese accounted for the largest number with 33.7 percent, or 264,991, followed by the Chinese with 15.8 percent, or 124,268, Americans with 6.5 percent, or 51,158, Taiwanese with 3 percent, or 23,303, Russians with 2.2 percent, or 17,217, and Hong Kong tourists with 2.2 percent, or 17,167.

Chinese tourists increased 13.2 percent due to Korea? policy to ease via regulations. Since Korea started to issue visitation or employment visas to overseas Koreans since March, the number of Korean--Chinese visitors to Busan has continued to grow.
