Busan
City will launch a campaign for promoting sustainable urban transportation for
one week from September 16 to September 22 across the city. As the part of the
campaign, the annual World Car-free Day event will take place on Tuesday,
September 22, 2015 all over Busan.
The City intends to
encourage public transportation in order to tackle problems caused by driving
private cars such as air pollution, traffic congestion and excessive energy
consumption, and to reduce the consumption of fossil fuels in response to climate
change. The event’s success relies on
citizens’ voluntary participation.
To promote the event, all city workers from public agencies and private companies will be encouraged to use public transport. Parking lots at the City Hall and at all public agencies will be closed temporarily as an additional encouragement for workers to use public transport.
