Busan
International Boat Show 2015 will be taking place at the Busan Exhibition &
Convention Center (BEXCO) and the Suyeongman Bay Yachting Center from September
17th (Thurs.) to 20th (Sun.). Starting this year, the festival will be held
under the title, “Busan International Boat Show,” instead of “Busan
International Boat Industry Expo,” with the aim of popularizing marine leisure
activities and expanding the scope of the related industry. Also, it will be
held simultaneously with a global marine leisure festival called KIMA Week
2015.
Armed
with rich resources for marine tourism, Busan is the hub of shipbuilding and
maritime industries and is home to Korea’s largest yachting facility,
Suyeongman Bay Yachting Center, as well as the North Port Marina, which is
currently under construction. The coastal city is newly emerging as the
“maritime capital” and the center of Korea’s marine leisure industry.
The
boat show recorded about 12,000 visitors last year, with 822 exhibition booths
set up by 120 companies from 7 different countries. A survey conducted after
its closure showed that there were a total of 495 business contracts, which
amounted to about KRW 125.9 billion in consulting contract prices. It received
praise for the excellent results of the first year, and efforts will be made this
year to help the participating enterprises branch out overseas by inviting
foreign buyers and holding an export consulting event.
Also,
there are plans to hold the Korea International Marine Leisure (KIMA) Week at
the same time, in connection with the International Conference, International
Dragon Boat Championships, and Busan International Film Festival (BIFF). The
aim of developing the package program is to attract tourists traveling by
cruise ships and to expand the marine leisure industry.
A
representative of the Secretariat for the Busan International Boat Show said,
“BEXCO, which will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of its establishment
this coming December, has supervised countless exhibitions and expositions.
Using our know-how and experience, we will provide omnidirectional support for
the boat show, which has become a strategic event of Busan, to help the
participating enterprises expand into the overseas markets and to lift the
domestic economy out of recession.”
