The Wedding Road of Queen Heo Festival 2015, jointly hosted by Busan and Gimhae and organized by the Tourism Promotion Organization for Asia Pacific Cities (TPO), will be held on September 5th and 6th. The festival has been held since last year as part of the “Wedding Road of Queen Heo Merchandising Project.” It aims to utilize the actual wedding trip route of Queen Heo along the Nakdonggang River as well as the geographical proximity and tourism infrastructure of the two cities to create synergy in their toursim sector.
This
year’s festival will kick off with the opening ceremony held at the Gaya Theme
Park on September 5, and the welcoming ceremony for Queen Heo is set to be held
at the Daejeo Ecological Park in Busan on 6th. Various other events are
scheduled to take place so that visitors can take a glimpse into Gaya and
Indian cultures.
Since
May, the two host cities have had four “Queen Heo Guerilla Events” for citizens
and tourists in order to heighten the anticipation of the festival and induce
citizen participation. In addition to the guerilla events, various promotional
activities have been conducted using social and mass media platforms in order
to increase awareness of the festival among the domestic and foreign tourists.
Invitations have also been sent to major outbound travel agencies in Korea,
China and Japan to develop tourism products bridging the two host cities.
The
Wedding Road of Queen Heo Festival will shed light on the story of Queen Heo
Hwang-ok from Ayuta Kingdom of present-day India who came to marry King Kim
Su-ro of Garak Kingdom about 2,000 years ago, and introduce the historical
sites in Gimhae which are associated with Queen Heo.
