The
City of Busan and the Busan Foundation for International Activities (BFIA) have
expanded free interpretation and translation services offered to foreigners from
a total of 7 to 12 languages.
Since
September 2012, Busan and the BFIA have been providing free interpretation and
translation services to foreigners who have difficulty communicating in Korean,
in particular at hospitals or public offices. To date, these services have
received positive reviews from residents.
Previously,
services had been available in seven different languages - English, Chinese,
Japanese, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Russian and Uzbek. However, five additional
languages have been added including Mongolian, Myanmar, Cambodian, Thai and
Tagalog.
Any
foreign resident in the Busan area may request free interpretation and
translation services when they visit a hospital and public office by calling
1577-7716.
Interpretation
services will be provided by a support team consisting of Busan citizens and
married migrants who are able to provide translation assistance on the spot.
