Busan Port's container traffic growth rate 3rd highest among world's top 10 ports

Container traffic passing through Busan Port has been increasing steadily. According to an analysis by Busan Port Authority on container traffic volumes processed by Busan Port up till this May, the port recorded 8.109 million TEU, up 6.4% compared to the corresponding period last year. Import and export freight volumes totaled 3.921 million TEU and transshipment cargos reached 4.188 million TEU. These represent increases of 3.6% and 9.1% respectively, compared to the corresponding period last year. Transshipment cargos account for about 52% of total cargo volumes. Container traffic from this January to May in the top 10 ports around the world reached 87.14 million TEU, up 2.9% compared to the corresponding period last year. Busan Port recorded the 3rd highest rate of increase, following the Chinese ports of Ningbo-Zhoushan(12.1%) and Tianjin(6.6%).
