The 1-trillion won Shinsegae Urban Entertainment Center or UEC is being built on the 75,500 square meter lot at Centum City, in Haeundae-gu District, and is slated for completion in March next year.
The center, with a total floor space of 40,600 square meters, houses a department store, spa, game hall, ice skating rink, cinema and driving range. In addition, 21 top brands and 622 minor brands will rent shops there. A gallery and other cultural shops will be located there as well.
The city-run Busan Development Institute predicts that Shinsegae UEC will create an estimated 10,000 jobs, including direct employment of 6,000 people, and thus ease unemployment. The institute said that the project would raise 1 trillion won worth of direct output in construction and tourism and 8 trillion won in overall economic output, including related industrial sectors.
A daily average of 50,000 to 60,000 shoppers and tourists are expected to visit, helping improve business activity.
In addition, the regional real estate market is expected to revitalize thanks to the center.
