‘Free legal services available for foreigners’

The Busan Bar Association and Korea Legal Aid Corp.'s Busan Branch are providing counsel such as legal advice, job consultation and matters related with civil petitions free of charge to foreign residents living here or abroad from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.


It offers to help foreigners solve human rights-related affairs, including legal problems arising in daily life. Applicants have only to register at the civil petition office on the 10th floor of the Busan Legal Town Building in Geoje 1-dong, Yeonje-gu District, and officials will connect them to attorneys on duty. Korea Legal Aid Corp.’s Busan Branch is providing a free consultation service to foreign residents in Korea earning less than 1.7 million won a month, with respect to such matters as domestic violence, sexual assault and prostitution, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays and from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays.


It also conducts legal consultation to help foreign workers in Korea with overdue wages and severance pay. Tel: 132 with no area code or 051-505-1643


In addition, the Labor Ministry’s Busan Job Center (Tel: 051-860-1919) offers free counsel concerning support for foreigners’ employment, information on job offers and job hunting and foreign investment, while the Justice Ministry’s Busan Immigration Office (Tel: 051-461-3021) helps foreigners to solve problems regarding immigration, visa issuance, foreign registration, extension and changes of sojourn and reentry into the country.


Also, the Married Immigrant Family Support Center (Tel: 051-610-2020) provides information to married immigrants on matters related to family conflicts, children’s educatio n and economic problems, and issues including Korean language education, life and cultural experiences.
