The special documentary, “The Korean Wave, Shaking North Korea,” produced by the Busan English Broadcasting Foundation (BeFM) recently won a gold Radio Award for social issues at the 2015 New York Festivals International Radio Program Awards.

New York Festivals International Radio Program Awards honoring the World’s Best Radio Programs announced the 2015 award-winners on Monday, June 22, at their annual Gala held at Manhattan Penthouse in New York City.

New York Festivals has been honoring the World's Best Work in media since 1957. Its world-class judges review submissions in the most current and relevant categories to award creativity across all forms of media.

‘The Korean Wave, Shaking North Korea’ conveys the vivid story of the Korean wave (Hallyu) in North Korea through interviews with North Korean defectors in Dandong, China, located right next to the North Korean border. The program shows the impact of the Korean wave in North Korea, and how it is changing the way youth in both countries regard unification between the North and South.

The program has been highlighted as an industry model and welcomed collaboration from five selected producers from Dong-A University.

The documentary was aired twice on Radio Korea in Atlanta, U.S.A, and received widespread attention and praise from overseas Koreans.

In addition, “The Korean Wave, Shaking North Korea” won the excellence award in the radio category at the Korea Communications Commission Broadcasting Awards 2015 this April.
