The special documentary, “The Korean Wave, Shaking North Korea,” produced by the Busan English Broadcasting Foundation (BeFM) recently won a gold Radio Award for social issues at the 2015 New York Festivals International Radio Program Awards.

York Festivals International Radio Program Awards honoring the World’s Best
Radio Programs announced the 2015 award-winners on Monday, June 22, at their
annual Gala held at Manhattan Penthouse in New York City.
New
York Festivals has been honoring the World's Best Work in media since 1957. Its
world-class judges review submissions in the most current and relevant
categories to award creativity across all forms of media.
‘The
Korean Wave, Shaking North Korea’ conveys the vivid story of the Korean wave
(Hallyu) in North Korea through interviews with North Korean defectors in
Dandong, China, located right next to the North Korean border. The program
shows the impact of the Korean wave in North Korea, and how it is changing the
way youth in both countries regard unification between the North and South.
The
program has been highlighted as an industry model and welcomed collaboration
from five selected producers from Dong-A University.
The
documentary was aired twice on Radio Korea in Atlanta, U.S.A, and received
widespread attention and praise from overseas Koreans.
In addition, “The Korean Wave, Shaking North Korea” won the excellence award in the radio category at the Korea Communications Commission Broadcasting Awards 2015 this April.
