Songdo
Beach, Korea’s first public beach, begins its summer season on June 1, 2015.
To
go along with the opening, a 104-meter-long skywalk is also being opened to the
public as part of a larger project to construct a 296 meter long and 2.3 meter
wide skywalk.
When
completed at the end of February 2016, it will be Korea’s longest skywalk on
the water.
Visitors
will be able to see the ocean under their feet, through floors made of tempered
glass. Along with the fun and thrilling experience of walking above the water, visitors
will also be treated to the beautiful scenery around Songdo Beach.
The
first of its kind in Korea, the skywalk’s surroundings played heavily into its
design, with its smooth contours resembling rolling waves. Careful planning
also went into eliminating any negative environmental impacts, ensuring that
the skywalk is truly in harmony with the sea.
Since 2012, Seo-gu has been working on the project to establish Songdo Beach as an area where all generations can relax and have fun all year round. As part of this project, the skywalk is expected to be a major tourist draw for Songdo Beach in the future.
