A Korean traditional overcoat, called "durumagi," has been selected as the clothes heads of state will wear for the official photo session at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum set to open in Busan Nov. 18-19.

The summit organizing committee announced that the overcoat was chosen from among various traditional clothing and will be made in various colors for the participants from the 21 nations. The committee began the selection process in September.

The durumagi has been part of the Korean wardrobe since ancient times, as revealed in murals from the Goguryeo Kingdom.

The garment was first worn to fend off the winter cold, but as time passed was included in various ceremonial attire and later adapted by the general population.

The photo session will take place on Nov. 19.
