Funding pact signed with KNN, Arirang Station
"Busan e-FM" has been selected as the name for the city's English FM station, scheduled to start broadcasting later this year.
The city made the decision after screening 118 public contributions, conducting experts' examination and hearing insiders' opinions.
Unlike other titles, the winner includes the name of "Busan" as well as "e" meaning English, which has also become familiar among people upon the onset of the "Internet era," said a city official while explaining the background for the selection.
Busan has also signed contracts with KNN, a private regional broadcaster and Arirang Broadcasting Station (International Broadcasting Exchange Foundation) to establish Busan e-FM.
KNN will contribute 100 million won($100,000) in funding to establish the Busan English Broadcasting Foundation as well as provide space for the broadcaster free of charge and other technical support.
Arirang Broadcasting Station will also contribute 100 million won, provide broadcasting programs for free, co-produce regional programs and cooperate in public relations activities in Busan through Arirang's media outlets.
Busan plans to apply for licenses to establish an English broadcasting foundation and station this month and start to secure facilities and equipment in earnest as soon as it gets government approval to begin test broadcasting in late November and start fullfledged broadcasting in late December.
