Ground to be broken for Film Center, Dureraum

On Oct. 2, the city will break ground for Dureraum or the Busan Film Center, which will be used as the venue for both opening and closing of the Pusan International Film Festival or PIFF at the Centum City in Haeundae-gu District.


The center will be built on a 32,137 square meters site, utilizing a design by Coop Himmelblau of Austria and heerim Architects & Planners of Korea selected in an open competition.

It is composed of three buildings - Cinema Mountain, PIFF Hill and Double Cone, four to nine stories high and a first floor basement with a combined total floor space of 54,335 square meters.


The nine-story main building, Cinema Mountain, will accommodate a multipurpose performing arts hall with 856 seats, a medium-sized cinema with 444 seats and a small cinema with 187 seats.


The four-story PIFF Hill will contain an office of PIFF Organizing Committee, a convention room and a film and media center among others. The Double Cone will house facilities, including restaurants and bars. Dureraum is scheduled to be completed in 2011.
