The national fervor for hosting "2020 Busan Olympics" is hotter than ever.
Countries from all over the world are rushing to participate in the 2008 World TreX Games and the 6th IOC Forum for Sports, Education and Culture, which will take place here late this month.
A number of IOC members are also scheduled to visit Busan during the period. The city is set to cement foundation for attracting the 2020 Summer Olympic Games.
The city has recently received the first list of about 200 registered foreign participants in the IOC forum, which will take place in Sept. 25-28 here, from the International Olympic Committee. Local participants, mainly consisting of athletic, cultural and educational experts, have already reached 230 in number, way beyond the city's initial target of 150.
About 1,000 experts from 150 countries are estimated to take part in the Busan IOC Forum with 600 of them expected to come from abroad, including IOC members and other related officials, invited guests, representatives from various national Olympic committees, officials from various international athletic associations and other organizations.
The foreign participants will outnumber their Korean counterparts.
About 400 domestic participants will include government and athletic officials, academics, including professors, and other experts.
An IOC inspection team has already made reservations for 600 guest rooms at two tourist hotels in Haeundae allocated as lodging facilities for foreign participants. Following the IOC Forum, the "IOC Cultural Olympic Educational Committee" will hold a conference at Haeundae Paradise Hotel and Nurimaru APEC House in Sept. 27-28. The 2008 Busan TreX Games will open Sept. 26 and continue through Oct, 2, during which about 10,000 athletes from 100 countries will demonstrate their respective traditional sports culture in the biggest scale ever.
