Busan, Jinhae—September 1, 2006—On what were just a few months ago plots of bare land now sit modern-day manufacturing sites as foreign-invested companies within the Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone continue to make significant headway on plant construction.

The Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone Authority and its Commissioner Chang Soo-Man continue to offer support to foreign companies within the area, especially those in the process of building their offices and factories.

On August 31, Commissioner Chang visited the construction sites of the Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone’s investors to assess the progress being made and to encourage workers at the sites.

The construction areas of the foreign-invested companies he visited specialize in manufacturing, mainly automobile and shipping parts. They include NKCF, a gas cylinder manufacturer, SJ Steel, a container parts producer, Balzers, a leader in coating technology, and SKF, an automobile parts manufacturer.

Park Yoon-so, president of NK Co., Ltd which is an investor in the joint venture project for NKCF, said in a meeting with the Commissioner that once in their factory is in full operation, the company will employ around 500 staff members. He suggested that the residential facilities for employees be established apart from the plant.

The Commissioner, on this request, promised to make every possible administrative effort in order to minimize the discomforts of the companies and to help them complete plant construction as soon as possible to ensure early operation. This included addressing the needs for future employees such as the fast establishment of residential facilities.

The Busan-Jinhae FEZ Authority will therefore constitute a council to address the concerns of FDI companies and promises to make every effort to their problems.
