The
City of Busan is eliminating the transfer fare for public transportation
including local buses, village/neighborhood buses, and metro starting from July
1, 2015.
The
discounted fare system for transfers between local buses and metros; local
buses and village/neighborhood buses; metros and village/neighborhood buses; for
which the discount transfer fare is 200 won for adults, 130 won for youths and
50 won for children, will be abolished.
However,
this new free transfer policy will not be applied to the Busan–Gimhae Light
Rail Transit and inter-city (express) buses.
In
order to take advantage of free transfers on public transportation in Busan,
commuters must use a transportation card and scan the card as they exit the
bus.
Commuters
may receive up to two free transfers if each are done within 30 minutes of
disembarking.
The
free transfer system is a part of the city’s efforts to create a ‘Public
Transportation Centered City,” which was one of Busan Mayor Suh Byung-soo’s
pledges. The city expects this system will increase the use of public
transportation and save citizens 13.6 billion won per year in transportation
costs.
