A symbolic sculpture has been installed in front of the Children’s Park, located in Choeup-dong, Busanjin-gu.

With a total investment of 0.6 billion won, Busan City and Busan Infrastructure Corporation completed the installation of the sculpture entitled ‘Expanding Dream’ in time for the unveiling ceremony held on August 30.

‘Expanding Dream’ is by GWEON Dal-sul, a sculptor and a former art professor of Silla University. This 12 meter high and 15 meter wide stainless steel sculpture has a cubic puzzle at its center, on which cartoon characters – Pororo, Dulri, Tom and Jerry, Donald Duck and Kitty – have been painted, and long square shapes stretching out from the cube and surrounding it. The sculpture expresses the infinite expansion of children’s dreams. In particular, the LED lighting will produce a beautiful night view.

The sculpture has been praised for its public appeal, its balance with the surrounding environment and its artistic value. As one of the biggest sculptures in Busan, it is likely to become a popular artistic landmark in the city.

The sculptor has explained his work, saying “I wanted to express the expansion of thought towards the present and our dreams, and the future of our children, on the sculpture.”
