The Busan International Medical Tourism Convention is drawing immense interest this year, with organizers promising that the event will be larger and more in-depth than in 2009. The convention, which is scheduled to take place from Sept. 1 to 3, will bring together roughly 70 medical tourism experts and agencies from 10 countries, giving it a truly international flavor and a diverse group of participants.

Last year’s convention attracted just 22 experts from eight countries and a total of 10,000 visitors. Aside from the surge in participation from numerous veterans in the field, organizers also hope to top last year’s overall attendance figure. The number of exhibition booths has also increased this year to 80 from 50 at the 2009 gathering, providing visitors with even more opportunities to learn about various medical tourism services and treatment options offered here. Busan City and the Korea Tourism Organization are sponsoring the upcoming event, which will be held at the Lotte Hotel Busan.

The agenda includes international meetings, special events to promote tourism between Korea and Japan, business consulting and specialized tours. The Busan Medical Industry Association is organizing the convention. “This is not just an event that simply shows visitors all the options for medical treatments here,” said an executive from the association.

“We also hope to actually attract overseas patients to Busan during the convention for treatments. Furthermore, we will focus on designing meaningful medical tourism products to lure more visitors here in the future.”
