The Republic of Korea Navy (ROK Navy) is to hold an International Fleet Review (IFR) to mark the 60th anniversary of the foundation of the Korean government and its Armed Forces.
It is scheduled to take place October 5-10 in Busan, Korea.
A fleet review is a magnificent demonstration by the navy of a country under the command of its head of state. To celebrate the up-coming IFR, Korea's navy has opened an official website for the event in Korean and English (click here) so that Internet users can have better access to information.
The official homepage provides information about ship opening, fireworks, sea picture exhibition and other related programs to be held during the event, according to the ROK Navy.
IFR 2008 will bring together 50 warships and 30 airplanes from 13 different nations under the motto, "All in One to the Sea, To the World." This is the second IFR for the Korean Navy. The first one was held in Jinhae in 1998.
The ROK Navy will host "Western Pacific Naval Symposium" (WPNS) to discuss maritime security and cooperation with representatives from 24 member countries.
Also scheduled is a "Maritime and Defense Exhibition 2008: MADEX 2008" at BEXCO, a city parade in the Jagalchi Festival, and a concert at the naval base. The Busan International Film Festival (Oct. 2-10) is another concurrent event that might be of interest to the visiting public, although not directly related to IFR 2008.
