Newly Remodeled Jagalchi Fishery Market

Jagalchi, the prestigious, number one national seafood market will newly reopen to the public.
It started reconstruction at the end of December 2003.

'Modernization Project'
Local government officials and architects say that the modernization project, with its new seagull shaped building, is not only increasing its size, but it is also a historical reconstruction project. According to a source from the project, visitors can simultaneously meet modern and traditional seafood stores.

The 500 shops that did business in the old Jagalchi fishery market will reopen their businesses on the first and second floor. As known, they directly invested 10 billion won for the reconstruction, one-fourth of the total amount. It means they are proud of their 60 year history at the market.

'What are the Differences?'
Visitors can find fresh seafood on the first and second floors of the modernized market, as before. If visitors want to enjoy the fresh flavor of raw fish, they can select what they want on the first floor, and then enjoy it on the second floor. Kim Sun-tae of the market association of said, "Although it is a new building, almost all vendors will do their business at the same places as before."

'New Facilities of the Market Building'
As mentioned above, the size of the building was enlarged compared to the old building. Now the seven story building is almost complete. On the third flood, visitors can enjoy the history of raw fish at the Fishery Museum, and other fish academy and fishery promotion halls will be located there. The fourth floor will have eel-oriented folk restaurants, Sushi restaurants, souvenir stores and an administrative office. The fifth floor hill host seafood restaurants, and
there will be beer bars on the seventh floor.

'Others'
Different from the previous Jagalchi market, the new modernized market will be a place where visitors can enjoy a water-friendly deck where they can see the beauty of Yeongdo island and South Port, and where visitors can also enjoy the night beauty of Jagalchi market from the top of the building.

It will open to the public in October.
