Busan Alliance Francaise (French Cultural Center) which opened at Daeyeon-dong in 1980 was a favorite gathering place for young people who was eager for foreign culture equipped 16mm movie projector. The young people in those days were not able to go overseas travel, hence French cultural center enabled young people to dream of Paris, the city of romance through books, films, arts, music, and French classes. It moved to Choryang-dong in 2001 and approached people closer and became a cultural space at the center of the city having ceaseless art exhibition. This year is the 25th anniversary of Busan French Cultural Center, a representative of French Culture in Busan. A big event called “2005 Rendezvous de Busan” is planned to celebrate the anniversary. A total of 12 cultural events such as concert, exhibition, film festival, special dinner party, etc will be held from April 11th to May 31st. A piano concert by Laure Favre-Kahn is the main event. It is held at 7:30 on April 11th at Busan Cultural Center sponsored by Lexus and admitted with an invitation by French Cultural Center. Louvre Print Works of Art Exhibition is another central event, and they displays 35 works of art among 2003 Louvre Museum special print exhibition. 17~20 century 12 copperplate prints and 23 modern works of art tell you the story of past and present. From May 2nd to 31st at Art Gallery at Kyungsung University.

On the other hand, French Book Festival sponsored by Kyobo Bookstore from April 13 to 23 is an event to sell 20,000 French books like language books, children’s books, picture albums, French novels at 20 to 40% discounted prices. Also French director Francois Ozon Film Festival is on display from May 1st to 5th at Busan Citizen’s Hall and Short Film Festival from April 22 to 24 at Cinematheque, Busan. Pierre Laniau’s guitar recital is at Marriott hotel at 7 p.m. on the 22nd, Soprano Isabelle Vernet Concert is at 7:30 p.m. May 21st at Busan Cultural Center, and the play by Sprirly Deschamps theatre company is May 5 and 6 at Busan Cultural Center. There will be gala dinner at Paradise hotel on April 30th and the chef Bernard Guilhaudin, invited from France, will give you French authentic cuisine. An Academic Seminar by French Studies Society will be held on Satuday April 23rd at Dong-Eui University and there will be a lecture by French ambassador.
