The World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) will hold a coaches seminar later this month and a referee refresher courses in July in preparation for the Beijing Olympics, according to a news release from the martial arts governing body.
The coaches seminar is scheduled to take place June 16-18 in Busan and is expected to draw more than 100 coaches and officials from about 50 countries. It will feature a series of lectures, including talks given by Andrew Ryan, the director of the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF), and Korean Olympic Academy president Chang Ju-ho.
The WTF referee refresher course will take place July 13-19 in Busan. It is expected draw 29 international referees.
"Through the upcoming Olympic coach seminar and referee refresher course, we will reiterate the importance of fair play and fair judging and refereeing at taekwondo competitions, especially at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games," WTF president Choue Chung-won said in the news release.
A total of 128 athletes from 64 countries qualified for the taekwondo competition at the Beijing Olympics, which will take place in August.
