From next year, older fleets of local buses, village buses and garbage trucks are required to be replaced by CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) vehicles. In addition, gasoline vehicles weighing over 2.5 tons and more than 7 years old are required to attach vehicle emission reduction equipment or convert to pollution control engines.

On May 7, Busan Metropolitan City enacted the “Ordinance on the Reduction of Vehicle Emissions in order to achieve a cleaner air environment.

To ease bus and truck companies’ expenses in switching over to natural gas vehicles, the city plans to use national and city funds to provide financial support of 22,500,000 won for buses and 30 million won for garbage truck to help cover the cost.

Large-sized gasoline vehicle owners will also be partially subsidized for the cost of attaching vehicle emission reduction equipment, remodeling their engines or taking their car off the roads prematurely.
