KCC PLANS TO INTRODUCE ENGLISH FM RADIO SERVICE

 

The Korea Communications Commission(KCC) is planning to introduce a new English FM radio service in an effort to promote the understanding of Korea as well as provide foreigners visiting or residing in Korea with essential information to help them adjust to the new environment.

 

The local governments that govern the major broadcasting regions of Seoul Metropolitan area, Busan, and Kwangju will submit license applications including business plans, upon which KCC will review the eligibility of the candidates.

 

In accordance with Article 10(2) of the Broadcasting Act, the Commission is posting a notice as below to hear public opinion regarding the licensing of a new English FM service.

 

1. AREA and OPERATOR for the new English FM radio service

2.What to submit

o Any opinions or suggestions regarding the licensing of a new English FM radio service

 

※ Licensing Review Standards (Article 10(1) of the Broadcasting Act)   1. Possibility of realizing a public responsibility, impartiality and public interest nature of broadcasting; 2. Pertinence of the planning, programming and production plans of broadcast programs; 3. Regional, social and cultural necessity and propriety; 4. Appropriateness of management plans such as the organization and manpower operation; 5. Financial and technical capability; 6. Support plans for the advancement of broadcasting; and 7. Other matters necessary for conducting the business.

 

3. Submission Period : From June 9, 2008 to June 23, 2008
