To improve safety for sea traffic, the Busan Regional Maritime Affairs & Port Office has replaced 17 lighthouses' incandescent lamps at Busan Port with LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes).

Highly efficient LED lights have lower electricity consumption and last longer than incandescent lights. LEDs are a newer form of green technology which has been expanding in usage both in homes and in industry.

LED-200HI lighthouse lanterns have replaced 250mm lighthouse lanterns, raising their illumination power by a factor of two to three compared with the incandescent lights, while using the same amount of energy. The brightness of the lighthouses has now been improved from 250cd to 700cd and visibility has been extended from 9km to 14km.

An administrator of th e Busan Regional Maritime Affairs & Port Office, Ye-jong Woo said, “The improved illuminating power of the lighthouses at Busan Port will make for safer sailing at night.” and added, “We plan to replace more lighthouse light sources with highly efficient and environmentally friendly LEDs to improve the safety of sea traffic at Busan Port and Busan New Port.”

There are a total of 600 lighthouses at Busan Port.
