The 2011 Busan Cup Women's International Match Race is taking place from October 24 through 31 at Dongbaekseom Island, located behind Nurimaru APEC House in Haeundae. About 60 competitors from 12 countries are competing for $100,000 in prize money including a $20,000 first prize, a $15,000 second prize, and a $12,000 third prize.
As the only competition certified by the ISAF in Asia, hosted by Busan Metropolitan City and the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) and organized by Busan Yacht Association and the Women's International Match Racing Association (WIMRA), Busan City has been annually hosting the international women’s sailing competition since 2008.
Practice racing took place on October 24 until 25. The official racing began from October 26 and the final will take place on October 29.
Busan’s citizens and tourists can watch the competition from the Nurimaru and Koreana sailing ships on race days from October 27 until 30. The ships are operated for free from the dock at Dongbaekseom Island to Haeundae Beach three to four times daily. No reservations are required.
In addition, various fun side events including making a boat out of milk cartons, rubber ring sliding, and pirate ship boarding are scheduled from October 27 through 30 at Dongbaekseom Island.
