The 1st Korean Traditional Martial Arts World Tournament to be held from October 16 to 17.

Busan City announced that the 1st Korean Traditional Martial Arts World Tournament will be held from October 16 to 17 at Geumjeong Gymnasium in Spo1 Park.

 

Under the theme of “5000 years of Korean traditional martial arts open to the World”, the tournament has been organized to offer a chance to reflect on the spirit of Korean martial arts, and aims to promote a spirit of sacrifice for the country. The tournament is hosted and organized by the Korean Traditional Martial Arts Association and is supported by Busan Metropolitan City.

 

About 6,000 exponents of martial arts from 16 cities and provinces in Korea and overseas will compete in five different martial arts: Taekwondo, Hapkido, Keomdo, Subak(means empty hand)-do and traditional swordsmanship. Martial artists from 25 countries including the United States, Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkey, South Africa, Canada, Mexico, Germany, Greece, Japan, Taiwan and Australia will participate to the tournament.

The opening ceremony will take place on October 16, at 3 p.m, and will be followed by 2 days of competition.

 

In addition, a variety of traditional martial arts performances, a Korean fan dance, and Korean traditional music will be offered for visitors’ enjoyment.

Visitors will be able to try on traditional martial arts uniforms and equipment, and play traditional Korean games.

An official of the tournament said, “A global gathering through martial arts will take place. Through this event, the globalization of Korean martial arts will contribute to the health, wellbeing and education of people all around the world. We encourage our citizens’ to practice martial arts.”
