Busan City has announced it will install more Bus Information Terminals (BIT) on major roads in Busan and start their operation from the beginning of October.

A Bus Information System (or BIS) collects real-time data of buses’ locations, and then displays estimated arrival times on the BITs. As part of their trial operation, 160 BITs were installed and operated around Busan.

In September, Busan City plans to install an additional 400 BITs on major roads where bus passengers and operating bus routes are numerous. In addition, the old BIT models which were installed from 2003 until 2005 will be changed to new ones.

A city official said, “As part of the city’s Intelligent Transportation System (ITS), the additional BITs will be installed to support the 17th Busan ITS World Congress, to be held in October, and for citizens’ greater convenience in using the bus.
