OECD 'Great Potentiality for Busan’

OECD evaluated Busan as having great national competitiveness when the city makes the most of undeveloped resources through “Busan Review” report in December.

According to Busan administration on the 17th, OECD The Territorial Development Policy Committee appraised Busan having sufficient developable potentiality as a result of “Busan Review” being carried out from July to December 2003.

Thus OECD proposed principal policy recommendation in order to utilize developable potentiality as follows: construction of international airports and railroads, and composite linked transportation to secure harbor international competitiveness, utilize APEC as the opportunity of city development, formation of broad economic zone in Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam and building dynamic industry cluster system.

Additionally OECD recommended fostering of cultural, tourism industry like IT, films, video, etc. and devising strategic plans for maximizing foreign direct invest utilizing strategic location of Busan and 9 million consumer market.

The meanings of this OECD Busan Review are that they publicize the name Busan as city brand to other advanced countries and that it prepares the opportunities to establish and perform city policy as a result of participating in regional policy reviews of OECD for the first time among Asian cities.

On the other hand, Busan city and OECD joint international symposium was held at Busan city hall with OECD related people, government and city representatives, and other experts and they analyzed the result of “Busan Review” and had discussed the direction of policy toward desirable Busan development.
