Advance sale offered for holiday train tickets

The Korean National Railroad announced yesterday that train tickets for the Lunar New Year holiday would be available for advance sale this month.
Koreans often visit their hometowns over the holiday, which falls on Feb. 8, 9 and 10 next year.
The first day of sales will be Dec. 21, when tickets for trains bound for Gyeongsang provinces will be sold. The same trains also cover North Chungcheong province, Daegu and Busan. Tickets for both Jeolla provinces can be bought Dec. 22, while tickets for Janghang and Chuncheon in the upper part of the peninsula go on sale Dec. 23.
Half of the 2.4 million tickets available can be bought online at www.barota.com, beginning at 6 a.m. on Dec. 21.
Remaining tickets will be sold at rail stations from 9 p.m. Online reservations must be paid for by Jan. 3.
