BusanCity established a friendship and cooperation city relationship with the city of Osaka, an economic center of Kansai region in Japan and a trade port, to strength ties of friendship and expand mutual understanding through exchanges in areas including the economy, tourism and environment.
BusanCity mayor Hur Nam-sik and OsakaCity mayor, Kunio Hiramatsu signed the friendship and cooperation city agreement on May 21 at BusanCity Hall.
The ties were initially proposed by Osaka’s mayor during his visit to Busan on December 2006, as Busan and Osaka, the second largest cities in Korea and Japan respectively, share much in the ways that they are seeking to develop.
Busan and Osaka are geographically close to each other and increasing numbers of tourists and citizens travel between the two cities by plane and ferry. Therefore, the two cities’ friendship and cooperation ties are expected to reap substantial results from various exchange projects.
