Busan City has agreed to sign on the setting up of sister city relationships with Mumbai in May, aimed at securing a base of exchange with the South Asian country, emerging as a global economic power, to help accelerate its economic growth. Mumbai is India's largest city of commerce, finance and trade.

The Indian city is also nicknamed "Bollywood" because of the spectacular growth of its film industry. The signing will take place in May when the mayor of Mumbai will visit Busan to attend the fifth International Conference of Aquapolises.

Busan is also setting up a sistercity affiliation with Saint-Petersburg, the "cultural capital" of Russia. The city wants to secure a base of exchange in the strategic part of northwestern Russia and Eastern Europe because of it's growth potential, and prepare a beachhead for the advancement of its companies and culture into the region.

The city plans to confirm sister city ties when Mayor Hur Nam-sik visits Saint-Peterburg as part of his sales swing through Russia and Eastern Europe in June.
