Electronic ‘Hi-Pass’ toll collection system to be introduced on the Dongseo Elevated Highway on April 30

The automatic toll charging system, Hi-Pass, will be introduced on the Dongseo Elevated Highway in Busan from April 30.

Hi-Pass is a toll collection system which enables toll payment by Hi-Pass-equipped vehicles without having to stop at tollgates.

To solve the traffic congestion of the Dongseo Elevated Highway, Busan City has placed the Hi-Pass system in both directions at Gaegeum tollgate, at a cost of 19.5 billion won.

The Hi-Pass system of Dongseo Elevated Highway is the same system as the one operating on expressway tollgates nationwide and this is the first time that it is to be used on highway tollgates in Korea.

The City has decided to offer a 50 percent discount on toll charges until October 31 for 6 months to increase Hi-Pass utilization. From November 1, a 10 percent discount on toll charges will be offered.

By next March, the city plans to expand the Hi-Pass system to the tollgates of Gwangan Bridge and Hwangryeong Tunnel as well.

The Hi-Pass operation on Dongseo Elevated Highway will reduce by half the time it takes for vehicles to pass the tollgate. Therefore, the city expects this system will help to solve the chronic traffic congestion there.
