Extension from administrative and cultural exchange

Busan and Fukuoka, capital of the Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan, will enter an era of economic partnership on top of current brisk administrative and cultural exchanges. Tourism projects are also included in the bilateral cooperation.

Busan Mayor Hur Nam-sik held talks with his Fukuoka counterpart, Hiroshi Yoshida, during his trip to the port city on Kyushu Island on March 8-9, leading an economic and tourism delegation of the city.

Mayor Hur successfully reached an agreement with Yoshida to form a regional Korea-Japan strait economic cooperation zone initiated by the two port cities, aimed at promoting mutual interests as much as possible.

The two cities have also selected seven projects in tourism for cooperation, including festival parades, development of Busan-Fukuoka tour packages, joint participation in the Beijing Olympics and Shanghai Expo, and sharing costs in joint projects.

Mayor Hur and Yoshida also discussed ways in which the Japanese city will take part in the 3rd Korea Festival Exhibition, slated for June 20- 24 in the port city and the Pusan International Film Festival or PIFF, scheduled for October.
