Infrastructure construction under way toward top film city

Busan is taking brisk steps to turn itself into the top city of film and culture in Asia. It is completing the construction of one infrastructure facility after another as well as making steadfast efforts to develop its movie and other video-related industries.

This year, the city will focus on building the Busan Film Center, a post-production facility and a movie experiencing museum, while pushing for a project to construct the Busan Culture and Contents Complex in Centum City.

It plans to complete the designs of the center, or "Dureraum," a six-story building with a basement, which will be used exclusively for the Pusan International Film Festival, or PIFF, and broke ground for its construction in time for the PIFF's opening in October.

The post-production facility will see its building and film developing and editing sections dedicated in October for the completion of the entire facility by 2011. Also to be housed there are CGI and recording facilities as well as a D-cinema center.

The city plans to build the movie experiencing museum in the Jung District by seeking the investment of private capital and is working out follow-up steps. It is also pushing for the construction of the Busan Culture and Contents Complex in Centum City by 2011.

Another focus of efforts will be on the development of movie and video related industries. Specifically, it will support the growth of leading firms, operate the Busan Game Academy, assist a project to foster stars in the cultural contents area and help in the operation of the Busan Culture Industry Research Center
