Following the revision of the Automobile Management Act, Busan City has announced that, starting this January, insurance for two-wheeled vehicles with an engine capacity of less than 50cc is mandatory, and registration of these two-wheeled vehicles at the Gu/Gun office and the attaching of a license plate to the vehicles is required as well.
Completion of the registration process for two-wheeled vehicles with an engine of less than 50cc purchased before January 1, 2012 is required by June 30, 2012 and the registration of any such vehicles purchased after January 1, 2012 is required immediately after purchase. Two-wheeled vehicles which have a top speed of only 25 kilometers per hour, including mini bikes, motorboards and electric wheelchairs, are exempt from registration.
Violations will result in a fine of up to 500,000 won.
