To enhance the level of support provided to Busan-based foreign students, Busan City and Busan Foundation for International Activities (BFIA) formed a foreign student support team in January 2012 and the team has begun to operate foreign student support programs.

The Busan-based foreign student support programs seek to provide the following:

scholarships for Busan-based foreign students

a welcome party for new foreign students

international student representative meetings

a short-term internship program for foreign students

part-time and full-time job information

In addition, K-pop Hallyu classes, company visit programs, and a Korean speech contest will take place to provide foreign students with opportunities to learn more about Korean customs and culture.

Busan City hopes that the support programs will help to resolve many of the issues facing foreign students.

The consultation service for foreign students is available in three languages - Korean, Chinese and English - at the BFIA, from 9 a.m. through 6 p.m. The service includes part-time and full-time job information, scholarship information and advice on solving difficulties in daily life.

The international student population in Busan reached 6,483 people as of the end of January 2011.

An official of the BFIA said, “We plan to carry forward various projects which can help Busan-based foreign students adjust to life in Busan, maximize international students’ opportunities for learning and improve their academic performance.”
