Haeundae-gu will officially open Haeundae Beach and Songjeong Beach on June 26, welcoming summer visitors for the season. Operating hours are from 9:00am to 6:00pm. This year's opening periods are June 26 to September 15 for Haeundae Beach, and June 26 to August 31 for Songjeong Beach. In response to the growing impact of climate change, which has extended intense summer heat well into September, and the increasing number of visitors who come to the beach even after the official season ends, Haeundae Beach will again remain open through mid-September, as it did last year.
Minimizing Jellyfish Hazards at the Beach
Barrier nets will be installed at Haeundae Beach to block the entry of large jellyfish species, including Nomura's jellyfish (N-emopilema nomurai). Tiny jellyfish species, such as the blue button jellyfish (Porpita porpita), will be collected promptly by the local fishing village cooperative and civilian water rescue teams.
At Songjeong Beach, where approximately half the area is designated as a surfing zone, the installation of barrier nets is not feasible. Instead, five vessels and a large team of personnel will be deployed to manually collect jellyfish. To ensure rapid response to emergencies such as jellyfish stings, a new First Aid Station for Water Activities will be established and operated at Haeundae Beach.
Expanded Family Nursing Rooms and Improved Restroom Facilities
A section of the Haeundae Beach Tourist Information Center will be remodeled to create a Family Baby Lounge in an easily accessible location.
At Songjeong Beach, renovation work has been completed on Songjeong Public Restroom No. 2, located behind the Songjeong Tourist Information Center. Interior partitions (cubicles), washbasins, and underground plumbing have all been comprehensively upgraded, providing visitors with a significantly more comfortable facility.
Barrier-Free Beach — Accessible to Everyone
To improve beach access for visitors with limited mobility, four barrier-free deck pathways — two at Haeundae Beach and two at Songjeong Beach — will be fully renovated.
Barrier-free deck facilities are accessibility facilities designed to allow people with mobility challenges, including wheelchair users, families with strollers, senior citizens, and pregnant women, to enjoy the beach without difficulty.
