Busan International Rock Festival, Dongnae Eupseong History Festival, and Gwangalli Eobang Festival Designated as 2026–2027 Culture & Tourism Festivals by the Ministry of Culture, Sports & Tourism

□ Three municipal celebrations—the Busan International Rock Festival, the Dongnae Eupseong History Festival, and the Gwangalli Eobang Festival—have been named 2026–2027 Culture and Tourism Festivals by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

○ Grounded in evaluations undertaken over the past two years, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism reviewed content competitiveness, guest satisfaction, and economic impact, ultimately recognizing 27 festivals nationwide.

○ Spanning music and history, Busan reaffirmed its status as one of Korea’s tourism leaders.


□ The Busan International Rock Festival and the Dongnae Eupseong History Festival were newly endorsed, while the Gwangalli Eobang Festival claimed the honor for the eighth consecutive time since 2020.

○ The Busan International Rock Festival is the longest-running series of its kind in Korea and has contributed greatly to Busan’s reputation as a global music destination. Every year, top domestic and overseas performers draw large audiences to the vibrant scene.

○ The Dongnae Eupseong History Festival brings a key moment from Busan’s past vividly to life. Headlined by parades and hands-on activities curated around the Siege of Dongnae during the Imjin War, it fosters a sense of civic pride.

○ Reinterpreting Busan’s seafaring customs in a modern way, the Gwangalli Eobang Festival ensures participatory discoveries against the scenic backdrop of Gwangalli Beach and encourages engagement from residents and travelers alike.


□ Each festival is granted annual national funding of 40 million won, plus support for international outreach, tourism offering development, and AI-powered visitor readiness improvements.

○ Beginning in 2026, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will also revamp its framework to help local events elevate to world-class standards by strengthening thematic and regional linkages.


□ Accordingly, Busan plans to accelerate preparations so that the Busan International Rock Festival, the Dongnae Eupseong History Festival, and the Gwangalli Eobang Festival can emerge as globally notable highlights.

○ Diverse strategies will transform these programs into must-see attractions, emphasizing Busan’s unique traditional, cultural, and artistic identity.


□ Mayor Park Heong-joon said, “Busan’s three festivals were selected thanks to its rich resources, active citizen involvement, and creative spirit. We vow administrative and financial efforts to position Busan as a driving force behind the global popularization of K-culture.”
