The city of Busan reported that it has finalized the design of a pipe organ which will be installed at the Busan International Art Center and begun its installation. The Busan International Art Center is currently under construction at Busan Citizens Park.
The pipe organ will be the first to be installed in a concert hall outside the capital region. There are three concert halls in ROK which have installed pipe organs, Sejong Center in 1978; Lotte Concert Hall in 2016 and Bucheon Art Center (under construction).
The pipe organ is a musical instrument that produces sound by driving pressurized air (called wind) through the organ pipes selected from a keyboard.
The pipe organ in the Busan International Art Center will be built by Freiburger Orgelbau Späth in Germany and have 62 stops, 4,406 pipes and four keyboards. After the preliminary installation in Germany, it will be moved to Busan by December of next year.
The Busan International Art Center project broke ground in January 2021 to construct a 3-story building with one underground level with 19,862 square meters of floor space at Busan Citizens Park. A total 10.48 billion won was invested in the project and is now 30 percent complete.
The art center is scheduled to be completed in 2024 and open to the public in 2025.
