The city of Busan has announced that various untact international exchanges will take place, including a photo exhibition, on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of Busan-Kaohsiung sister city relations.
Busan first established sister city relations with Kaohsiung on June 30, 1966. Kaohsiung is a large container port city located in southern Taiwan.
For the 55th anniversary commemorative project, Kaohsiung will hold the Busan-Kaohsiung Sister and Friendly Cities Exhibition in June for a month at Kaohsiung City Hall, which will feature photos and symbols of Busan.
Busan Photo Exhibition – Under the theme of the 55th anniversary celebration of Busan-Kaohsiung sister city relations, the event will be centered on healing tourism between Busan and Kaohsiung and take place at Busan City Hall from June 28, 2021 for one week.
In addition, Gwangandaegyo Bridge and the Busan Cinema Center will change to Kaohsiung’s representative colors of gold, red, green and blue on June 30, 2021, and the blue color of Busan will be displayed at Love River, Kaohsiung, Taiwan in June as part of the ‘Lights on! Busan, Lights on! Kaohsiung’ event.
The city is hosting the event to strength ties between sister and friendship cities to get over the limitations on face-to-face exchanges by expanding sustainable untact exchanges arising from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The city plans to host photo exhibitions to celebrate sister city relations with the following sister cities of Busan in August - Shimonoseki in Japan (45 years), in October - Dubai and Hokkaido in Japan (15 years), Montreal in Canada (20 years), Tijuana in Mexico (25 years), Rio de Janeiro in Brazil (35 years).
*The city of Busan signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with Hokkaido in 2005.
