A Summer Festival of Youth, Music and Romance: The 30th Busan Sea Festival

Busan Metropolitan City, led by Mayor Chun Jae-soo, announced that the 30th Busan Sea Festival, Busan’s signature summer festival, will be held throughout the Dadaepo Beach area for seven days from August 7 to 13.

This year’s festival will present a diverse and sophisticated lineup of programs against the backdrop of Dadaepo Beach in Saha-gu.

Beginning with the Dadae Fireworks Show against the sunset, the festival will offer an even richer experience with a variety of interactive programs, attractions, and food.

On August 7, the opening day, an opening ceremony marking the start of the festival will be held in conjunction with the Dadae Fireworks Show, a spectacular display unique to Dadaepo.

Taking place during the prime sunset hours at Dadaepo Beach, a renowned sunset destination, the Dadae Fireworks Show will begin at 8:00 p.m. Three barges will be used to stage a 17-minute panoramic fireworks display over the sea, culminating in a grand finale. An after-show performance will continue the festive excitement.

The festival’s main programs include Dadae Pocha, the largest beach food-tent venue in Korea; Sunset Beach Club, combining food and relaxation; and the Youth Sea Liberation Zone, organized with direct participation from local university students.

Dadae Pocha, August 7-13

Set up along one side of the sandy beach, Dadae Pocha will allow visitors to enjoy a wide variety of food against the romantic backdrop of Busan’s night sea. Approximately 2,000 seats will be available, making it the largest dining area of its kind in Korea. On August 8 and 9, the Dadae Pocha stage will host performances spanning various genres by artists including Heize, Paul Kim, OOPS, GETZ, Band Girin, and Talkappella.

Sunset Beach Club, August 7-9

This open-air beach club on the sand will consist of Sunset Club, offering a nighttime club atmosphere, and Sunset Pub, a comfortable lounge area. It will provide an immersive space combining house DJ music, wellness activities such as do-it-yourself aromatherapy and perfume making, Sunset Move, and mini-ball barre, as well as a healthy food zone.

Youth Sea Liberation Zone, August 10-11

This large-scale intercollegiate campus festival will bring together ten universities in Busan, including Pusan National University, Dong-A University, Kyungsung University, and Pukyong National University. University students will directly plan and operate campus food tents, while band and dance clubs will perform alongside invited artists such as Yang Hong-won and Han Yo-han.

A diverse range of performances and hands-on programs created with residents will continue throughout the festival.

On August 12, the Dadaepo Folk Rock Concert will offer an environmentally themed performance featuring acoustic music against the sunset, with appearances by Scenery of Riding Bicycle and the Kim Jang-hoon Band, among others.

On August 13, the Open Sea Concert, featuring the Saha-gu and Yeongdo-gu municipal boys’ and girls’ choirs and the Junior Concert Choir, will begin at 7:00 p.m. and bring the festival to a close with performances for all generations.

Additional events will also be held throughout the festival, including Dadae Beach Market, a secondhand direct-trade market led by local sellers, along with do-it-yourself upcycling experience booths.

On the opening day, August 7, an attendance cap will be imposed at Dadaepo Beach to ensure visitor safety. Beginning at 4:00 p.m., one lane of Dadae-ro and three nearby public parking lots will be closed.

To prevent accidents on the opening day, Busan Metropolitan City will limit the number of spectators on the beach to approximately 35,000, subject to adjustment depending on conditions at the site. Once capacity is reached, visitors will be directed to nearby viewing areas where the fireworks can be seen, including Gouni Ecological Trail.

As traffic congestion is expected on the day of the festival, visitors are strongly encouraged to use public transportation whenever possible.
